€8.8 million for Utrecht entrepeneurs
Good news for Utrecht startups. The Committee of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) decided to earmark €8.8 million for an Utrecht fund for entrepreneurs with solutions for healthy living in an urban environment.
The Utrecht region is growing rapidly. By 2040, there will be at least 155,000 new residents added, resulting in major challenges for healthy living, living, working and mobility.
This calls for innovation and entrepreneurship. As a region, we want to turn this challenge into an opportunity. The fund is for creative and bold entrepreneurs with products and services that contribute to healthy living in an urban environment.
The fund consists of three parts: two proof-of-concept funds and one equity fund. It is intended for companies with solutions that can be used here in the region, in the Netherlands, as well as in metropolitan areas all over the world. The intended total size of the fund is over EUR 20 million, thanks to the co-financing of public and private parties.
In the coming period, the fund will be set up and fund managers will be recruited. The expected opening is in the first quarter of 2019.
